2 monitor and tv setup help

HI, I have been running two monitors using dvi cables perfectly for about a year now, and i decided to try running them with a tv as well. I have a radeon xfx r9 280x, so it has a hdmi port as well. I have connected my tv to this port, and the tv is detected by windows, but whenever I try to enable the tv it comes up with error message unable to save display settings. any help?

I'm at work, so I don't have time to look-up/read the manual for that card, but, generally, you can't use both DVIs and the HDMI outputs on Radeon graphics cards. One of the DVI outputs (don't remember which one) is linked to the HDMI in a way that only allows you to use 1 or the other. Does your card have a display port? That would be your best work around.

i think so, it has two small ports underneath the hdmi port

If they are small ports, chances are they are Mini Displayport. You can get a mini displayport to hdmi adapter for about $10 on amazon and use that to connect the third monitor. This should fix your issue.
