2 monitors on 1 pc

Hello,
I bought a second hand monitor and a dvi-vga adaptor because on my video card i have just 1 vgi and 1 dvi.when i hook up the adaptor my 1 st monitor is closing (blackscreen).
What can i do?
The monitors are different product and both are working .The adaptor is new .
I hope you can find a solution to my problem.

You need to configure your PC for dual screen setup. You can do this in the screen control panel. Seek out the settings for multiple displays and adjust as you wish.

On that screen there should be two monitors available. Try to let the PC (force) detect the 2nd monitor, under advanced settings.
