2 monitors on 1 pc

Hello,
I bought a second hand monitor and a dvi-vga adaptor because on my video card i have just 1 vgi and 1 dvi.when i hook up the adaptor my 1 st monitor is closing (blackscreen).
What can i do?
The monitors are different product and both are working .The adaptor is new .
I have windows 7 ultimate .My video card is AMD.
I hope you can find a solution to my problem.I will be glad to make some pics if you can to help me better 😀

Right click the desktop, select Screen Resolution.

Then extend the desktop, or duplicate it, or deactivate it, etc as you please.
