Hi There,

I just got a 4k monitor which is running from a display port on my MSI 780ti and have my old monitor (1080p) plugged in via hdmi. The display scaling is a problem though because even though I have it set to medium (150%) the 1080p monitor is larger than medium, it appears to be about double that for some reason rendering it useless for what I want to use it for.

I tried enabling my on board Intel graphics on my Z87 Pro motherboard but unfortunately even though I got the monitors to show up independently on the Nvidia and Intel graphics settings I was unable to change the DPI settings for each monitor individually this way.

I was wondering if I bought a second graphics card (just a cheap one, thinking about the MSI 710 - £25) and plugged the 1080p hdmi monitor into it if I would have the option to have different DPI settings for each monitor that way?

Thanks.

You should be able to just set the screen resolutions of each monitor in Windows's Display settings. If you're using a form of DSR, then you should be able to assign that in NVIDIA's settings, then select which resolution you want in Windows. You shouldn't need another graphics card.

I can set the resolutions fine. The DPI I think is the problem. The 1080p is running at 1920x1080 but as long as the 4k monitor is plugged in everything on its screen is HUGE. I was running this monitor as my main before I got the 4k and it was fine. It's almost like the resolution is doubled or should I say halved then blown up to 1920x1080 while the 4k monitor is my main.

Ps. I'm on Windows 7.

Here's a picture (a terrible picture) of my 1920x1080 monitor set at Medium (125%). I used HWMonitor since it's the only proggy I could think of that resets size each time it's opened. You can see how big that is on a resolution of 1920x1080 while my 4k is running. This is why i want to know if a second graphics card will elimiate this weird scaling.

PPS. I have tried DSR but the text is so horrible I turned it off.

Perfect, thanks! Didn't mean to hijack the thread but it seemed relevant so I went ahead and asked here instead of creating a new thread.

Ok thanks. I really don't want Windows Frankenstein on anything after trying a while back. Guess I'll plug that monitor into my laptop and get a wireless keyboard. MS love making things simple for us don't they 😉

Thanks again.
