Question 1: has anybody else had problems getting a new large drive to boot using a relatively old mobo?
mine is formatted bootable, i can put stuff on it, do a drive copy using ibm drive manager but it just doesnt boot
likewise i tried booting clean off a windows CD with the old drive disconnected for a complete reinstall, and that didnt work either.

Question 2: i have a floppy boot disk, but whenever i use it, it loads dblspace.bin (or something like that) which gobbles up all my free dos memory
how do i remove it, cuaz it certainly aint in the config or autoexec.bat

thanx

Reply 1: Make sure the primary dos partition is set to the active partition, make sure the appropriate system files are in the root directory (format /s), and it should boot fine if the bios correctly recognizes it.

Reply 2:

edit the autoexec.bat and config.sys files on the boot floppy. there is a line somewhere that either loads this driver or calls another .bat file that loads the driver. If it is a windows boot disk, press F8 when booting, and boot with confirmation. This will step throught the boot process and ask you whether or not you want to load each driver.
