I've had this psu (evga 500w) for a couple months and it burned on me when I was rendering a video so I bought a new one (evga 600w) and when I plug it in it turned for a second then it smelt like plastic melting. I cleaned the fans, checked the CPU for any damage but there was nothing and tried wiring it with a screwdriver but no luck. Every now and then I click the power button and the CPU fan makes one turn and stops.

Msi 970a krait
128gb ssd

How would I check the mobo

Inspect motherboard for burnt spots, bulging capacitors, etc.
Other then that it is more process of elimination as you dont want to try a different board in your PC and it be soemthing else that is shorting everything else out..

Does the replacement PSU work if not plugged into motherboard? You can use paperclip test to find out (jump pin16 to any ground wire on 24pin connector).

I checked the mobo and there wasn't anything wrong with it, I tried a different CPU cooler, same thing, I checked the ssd and it was okay too. I requested an RMA from MSI just in case but if there's something else I could do please tell me
