Hello everyone, I have 2 questions i have seen partialy addressed on the
boards but have found no help with them. I am running xp pro/sp2. Yesterday
I came home and wanted to install some software from work and put the cd in,
nothing happened! I went to my computer and although i know i have a dvd rom
drive and a cd/rw drive, they were not showing up. So I go to the Device
manager and the drivers are shot. So I uninstall the devices and reboot,
simple.....not. Rebooting took me 15 min. I was hanging on the windows xp
screen with the status bar i swear for 15 min!!! So Finaly I get back to the
login screen log in and still no cd drives.

Any help is appreciated

Well, the error message didn't say "the drivers are shot". Post what the
error messsager in device manager is including "Error Code" number.

Look at your event logs for clues.
Do the devices show up in the BIOS?

Can you get new drivers from the hw mfr and install them in Device Manager?

Can you boot from a bootable CD just to make sure they're functioning?

Another couple of things you may want to check would be the IDE cables
being used for the devices and check their power cables.

Also, when you are in Windows, you can check some of these ideas:
