i have a XFX XXX 850W Semi Modular 80+ Bronze Power Supply running a gigabyte AB350 with a ryzen 5 1600, 8gb of ram in one module an M.2 250gb ssd and a 7k rpm hdd with 5 case fans and im wondering if the PSU could handle two R9 280x s i have OC'd the CPU @ 3.775ghz upped the voltage to 1.22v my PSU states it has 70 amps on its 12v rail.

My overall goal is to create a system with a second User interface running a Virtual machine and utilise GPU pass-through hence the second R9 280x. As i already own one, I figured it would give me more options if i matched cards so the other will arrive shortly.

Your power supply is fine.

According to this review the r9 280x consumes 257w at load. This review suggests the DCUII TOP version can use ~30W on top of the usual R9 280x.

So the R9 280x could use up to 300w on its own, at max load. That's 50A max for a pair.

The Ryzen 1600X (which consumes similar to stock 1600) consumes ~88W max. With an OC, let's give it 100W (8.3A)

The main consumers (CPU / GPUs) of your system can use up to 58.3A. This leaves 11.7A (140.4) to spare for the rest or excess. From this power consumption guide the rest of your system will consume at max 94W (7.83A).

At max your computer will use within your power supplies power rating. Typical load power consumption should be much less.

It also includes 4 PCIe 6+2 pin connectors, which is sufficient for your GPUs.
The PSU quality is pretty good, based on the Seasonic AT/AM platform
