Good afternoon,

I am getting ready to buy new graphics for my PC with the upcoming release of BF3.

I've been told there are benchmarks that put the performance of twin 6970s on top of one GTX 590 and visa versa.

Should I buy one GTX 590 or two 6970s?

I thank you in advance for your advice.

No, no tri-screen setup. I am going for the Ultra video settings in BF3, and the strongest solution I can get in an effort to avoid upgrading as long as possible.

Here is what I am thinking. I think the performance of either of these solutions is probably a wash as some folks say one is better and some say the other. It is a sinch that my old/feeble eyes wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

That leaves performance out of the mix and upgrade potential the deciding factor. I am thinking my best upgrade option is to buy a GTX 590 now with the idea that when I upgrade I will get another one, hopefully at a substantially reduced rate one or two years from now. If I get 2 6970's now I will need another completely different solution when I upgrade and whatever it is will be at the full rate then we are looking at today.

So I am leaning toward one GTX 590 today. Is my thinking flawed?

If I were you I'd consider just going with a single 580 and determining if the performance in the newer games that you are playing is satisfying and waiting for more mature dual-GPU and SLI support in newer engines.
