Hi!

I have intalled Win2000Pro on my machine after Win98 completely died on me. It was a clean install, booting from CD-ROM, formatting HD, install, d/l and install all of service packs and critical updates.

Everything works fine, but two small annoying problems keep bugging me:

1. I can't turn off the modem sound when it is dialing to ISP. I set up volume in modem properties to 0, but it does not help.

2. "Shut down" option does not work properly (it was OK with Win98). Computer shuts down, but then restarts again.

I have ASUS P5a-b, K6-2 proc. at 500, GeForce2MX, 300W ATX case. Not sure what else to add about my system.

Any ideas?

I have the opposite problem with the modem sound on one of my Win2k machines. I can't turn the sound ON! It used to be on with WinME but not in 2k.

I see the slider, but it makes no difference whatsoever. On "low" or "high" volume it is always the same sound.

Well, the only other thing I can think of is double click on the volume control, under the master slider, click advanced, and turn off the pc speaker.

Sometimes, windows just doesn't want to save the settings you click on to the registry/ini file. You might want to look around for a tweak program. They are usually the best way to go.....windows is cool like that.
