Current PC Specs:
i5- 3570K 3.40 Ghz
Crappy AsRock MoBo that came with my PC, it was pre-built but has been upgraded
8Gb RAM
500 GB HDD
R9 280X
No after market fans, case has only one
600W EVGA PSU
So, I plan on upgrading my PC this holiday season, I have been making quite a few threads lately as new ideas and problems occur in my head for my upgrade scheme. As of now, I plan on making two separate upgrades. One after the other with maybe a month in between.
UPGRADE 1:
-I plan on getting a new case. I bought this computer pre-built and the case is horrible. It is a cheap plastic that has designs on it like a 10 year old would want to put on his dream car. In short, it has flames on it. Not so hot. (Get it?)
-I plan on getting some case fans to improve airflow within this new case. This will help out with cooling in upgrade two which will be discussed shortly.
-I plan on getting a new motherboard. As mentioned I have an old crap motherboard. it doesn't do anything wrong, but it does not support SLI or Crossfire which is necessary in upgrade 2, because I plan to go Crossfire.
-I also plan to get a new PSU to support the extra needed Watts of a second GPU.
UPGRADE 2:
-I plan on getting another R9 280X to run in Crossfire.
-I plan on getting a 1440p monitor, I currently have a 1080p monitor.
So why is this idiot reading off his birthday/ Christmas list to us? Because I do not know which parts to get to fulfill these needs. Now , I am not a total PC amateur, I have built a few PCs for friends, and have a good understanding of what I need. Just don't know the exact details, I am very meticulous. As far as the extra R9 280X and 1440p monitor goes, I am set. No help there. I could just use help on upgrade 1 because I have no idea what motherboards are good for overclocking. Also I am unsure of compatibility issues and how to configure the fans. I can install them, I just don't know how many I would need and where the go, etc.
As for budget. I would like to keep upgrade 1 in the price range of less than $300? Seems like a good number to me. 70 for case? 20 for fans? 120-140 for MoBo? 60-80 for PSU? These are just guesses but I would like to keep it in that range. And for the case I was thinking of the Fractal Design R4, seems like a great case at a good cost.
I already thank you if you have read that monster thread and have considered, or have, helped me. Hopefully you guys can provide some awesome insight like you always do. Thanks in advance.
To Edit, I want to make sure that people do not think I am simply making this thread for help instead of doing my own research. You guys no more than me which is why I look for your insight, I have don't plenty of research I just you more than myself.
