Building a badass computer 5930k but what to compliment it...
2 Titan X's or quad sli 980's?

Thoughts?

Quad 980s. But the scaling isn't real good with 4. Just use 2.

Would love to be able to game at 4k at 120fps when displayport 1.3 comes out. Don't say quad titan X's lol

Its a waste of money using quad anything. 1st card get 100%, 2nd 80% extra, 3rd 60% extra, 4th 40% extra.

There isn't anything out there yet that can handle 4K gaming with settings on ultra at 120FPS. Just not possible right now. Unless you only play TF2, LFD2 and maybe some moba's. At least I haven't seen a set up that could do it yet.

At this moment 4k cannot make 120 fps. Even you did Quad TITAN also.
Basically, best option is 1440p for you . Also Quad is not good. SLI is the best one. If you can wait Radeon 300 series would be the best option for you.

Yep - I'd go with 2 x 980s (or 970s) and a 1440p monitor if I was cashed up.

The 5960x is better. But its twice the price and only about 20% better.
