Hi, j

I'm trying to add a second GPU to my HPZ820 but the machine only has 3x 6 pin connector and each GPU needs a 8 pin.
So 2 of those connectors are plugged into a 6+6 to 8 pin cable so only one 6 pin connector remains....

How can I plug the second card?

I hope someone can help.

Cheers

Again DO NOT DO THIS. The only difference between 6 pin and 8 pin connectors is 2 extra ground leads to tell the connector its...

The dirty way to do that is to do some welding (that was the only way to do this back in the days when modular PSUs didn't exist).
Try to find some cables on ebay that splits an 8 pin connector into 2 8 pin connectors, but I doubt it would exist.

Definitely DO NOT do that. You should not be messing with the wiring of your PSU and if it doesn't have the connectors it can't deliver the power. Using adaptors to overload the connectors is a BAD idea.

OP while the system supports SLI its meant really to SLI a pair of workstation GPUs like Quadros.

That said 2 1070's should still work in theory, but you will need to buy a new PSU.

EDIT: from the looks of it the PSU for that system is proprietary. You may well be stuck here.

That's why solding is better, there are 3x6 pins, so there are 9 power cable pairs. Reorganise them so you can have 2 8 pins connectors.

Use molex to 8pin pcie or sata to 8pin pcie adapter.
PSU should be sufficient.

Again DO NOT DO THIS. The only difference between 6 pin and 8 pin connectors is 2 extra ground leads to tell the connector its safe to draw 150w max as per PCIe spec from the connector. You can't just solider stuff together to reorganize them and make it work. This is based on where its wired internally on the PSU.

You are going to cause a house fire with advice like this.
