2 x 6+2 Pin for 2 x 6 Pin??

Hey guys, i'm new to upgrading my PC. Today I got my new GTX 970 and I see it comes with a 2 x 6pin Power Connector. Also i got me a new psu with 550w, and it has 2x 6+2 Pins. My question is, can I just Plug in two of the 6 Pin connectors into the GTX, and let the others 2 Pins hang around?
Please help!

Yes that is fine. The 6+2 can be used as a 6 pin or an 8 pin.

Yes you can. Make sure the two 6 pin connectors are seperate, and don't use a Y splitter, and you're golden.
