Question 2 x 8GB RAM or 4 x 4 GB RAM

My motherboard has 4 slots. But I wonder if it makes any difference if I put 2 x 8GB RAM instead of 4 x 4GB RAM? My motherboard supports dual-channel but I don't know what that means.

Which motherboard?

In most cases going 2x8gb is the better choice as it will perform a bit better in most applications over 4x4gb however if you have an older motherboard it may not support more then 4gb per channel.

So yea you can go up to 8gb on each channel but going back to your original question I'd get the 2x8gb kit instead of 4x4 for better (a little bit) performance.
