[SOLVED] 2 x PC3-14900 889Mhz SODIMMS with different SPD profiles

Hi,

I purchased two DDR3 Memory SODIMMS PC14900 889Mhz (1866Mhz)

Strangely one reports as crucial one as micron. Both are identical PCBs and have what looks like the same memory modules on them.

Should I be concerned that the cruical one reports as 889 Mhz but does not have a SPD profile for it like the micron one does??

It makes me wonder if its really a PC3-10666 838 MHz(1333Mhz) stick as it doesn't have the SPD profiles for the higher speeds.

Is this normal?

See the info below that CPU-Z Reports.

Thanks in advance.....

Try testing only the Crucial module and see if you could get up to its rated max bandwidth (889 MHz).

It could be that CPU-Z is just not reading the module data or it could be a faulty module.
The only way to find out is by testing the module.

When you combine modules that were not tested to run in tandem, there could be unpredictable outcomes.

Where did you buy these ? When you search for the part numbers, the first is supposed to be RAM for Mac computers produced by Crucial, and the second corresponds to a part number for Samsung memory.
Are you sure these are genuine products ?

Did you purchased two RAM modules or a 16GB (2x 8GB) kit?
You might think that's strange, but it is quite normal to have similar RAM modules with different IC chips.
Only when you purchase RAM kits in pairs, you can be sure to get matching IC chips on both modules.

What could happen is that both RAM modules will run at the lower RAM module speed.

Same seller but were purchased a week apart.

But both were the exact same brand and speed but identify different. The seller was made aware of the firsts identification and asked to supply one that same.

Just wondering if its normal to have SPD profiles missing for the rated speed or does that imply the ram is actually slower than it is.

Australian seller that actually OEMS from cruical. What concerns me is should it have JDEC profiles for the rated speed or not. One seems to legitimately do 889mhz and has jdec speed profiles for it the cruical one only has jdec profiles up to 838mhz.

Does ram often ship without JDEC SPD profiles for its rated speed.?

Clearly something is strange with SPD.
Micron is one of the big IC chips manufacturers for RAM sticks, and they are selling RAM sticks under the "Crucial" brand - same company
That said , can you post a screen grab of CPU-Z Memory and SPD tabs ?

And I say again, the part number of the "micron" stick does not exist on the crucial / Micron RAM lists. This a Samsung part number, that you can see here:

That's what's in the original post at the bottom(SPD data from CPUZ) its from CPUZ i only removed the serial no line.
