Hi there

I own a 1050w silent pro Cooler master PSU of which the CPU power cable got damaged, I only received one in the box and Cooler master basically told me tough luck.

I cannot locate anywhere in South Africa where I can replace this.

Is it possible that I use a different PSU (450W) for that one 8 pin CPU power connector only. until I can sell enough organs to afford another one.

If it is possible how would the connections work, would I have to run the 24pin MB pwr and 8 pin cpu through the 450 or can I only use the 8 pin ?

i7 7700k
MSI M5
16GB G.skill ripjaws 3200
gtx 1080
Cooler master ML 280 cooler

Any help would be amazing.

Thanks
Brian

It's possible but not recommended. I have never tried but I have read a little about it, it is not straight forward. Both psu's have to be wired to share a common ground and pickup power on/off command. The other issues discussed was if voltages are slightly different between each psu, for example 11.8v on one psu compared to 12.2v on the other.

Then you have the risk of wiring it wrong and destroying your whole system.

I have contacted Cooler master themselves, the PSU was discontinued and the cables are not interchangeable with any of there new ones. I have spent the last 3 days phoning every company in South Africa I can find however there are no replacements for this cable.

I tried repairing it as it was a very small cut but no luck.
