20/4 pin Motherboard Connector Problem (PLEASE HELP!!)

Hello, today I went to build my first build, and it was all good untill I went to plug in the sperate 20 and 4 pin power connectors. When I have just the 21 pin conntor in the motherboard, the PSU comes on but none of the parts work. I think this is becasue the CPU needs the extra 4 pin connector, but whenever that and the 20 pin connector is plugged in, the PSU does work.?

There will be a separate 4/8 pins connector for the motherboard separate of the 20+4 Pin main power connector which will need to be connected also.

What motherboard and PSU do you have?

I have the Thermaltake TT430NL1Nh
And the ASUS K8s-La

That's a very old board - it has a 20-pin input for main power, the second 4-pin that's in front of it will need to be the separate 4-pin coming from the PSU

Yeah when I plug the 20 pin one in, the psu spins and all good. But when I put in the 4 pin, the PSU doesnt even turn on

(Its for a school project, my actual pc has a GTX780 😉 )

OKay I just worked out that the MOtherboard isnt getting power somehow. I removed the RAM and its meant to beep if the RAM isnt inserted but it isnt beeping. This means its a bad motherboard?

It will only beep if there's a PC Speaker connected on the front panel connector area, not all boards have one built in.

Have you connected the rest of the front panel headers or are you shorting the connectors for an outside case test?

I have connected all the start button into the motherbaord, so I guess its an In case test

The 2x2 socket provides CPU power. You need a plug from the PSU with 2 black and 2 yellow wires: if the one you're plugging in there has black/red/yellow/orange that's the wrong one and it will cause the PSU to not start.
