20 pin to 24 pin MoBo power

i have a older 250 watt psu and its using a 20 pin connector for the MoBo, i hear the difference between 20 pin & 24 pin is that 24 pin has more power. So since my MoBo can take a 24 pin connector and ill be adding a low end gfx card w/o separate power connector, should a get a 20 pin to 24 pin adapter to help power the gpu?

damn i was hoping to use that gpu cause newegg didnt say the minimum and on neweggs wattage calculator said ill be fine.. thnx for the help also i forgot to metion the 4 pin but if i were to put ant gfx card in there should i get a 20 to 24 pin adapter?

Graphics gards use 6 or 8 pin pcie power cable, most psu's should have a least 1 6 pin . And all ways power your mobo with all the power it can take, to get better stability.

you should have a 24 pins psu with a 4 pins atx and with at least 400 watts to be able to run the system and the card ,look at your motherboard specs and the graphic card one .

It would seem Sapphire recommends a 400w power supply as a minimum (though you MAY be able to run this card, it will not work very well and I would NOT recommend it). Many of these low end cards require no additional power connecters but instead draw power from the motherboard itself, requiring more power to be fed directly into the motherboard. I would look into getting a 400+ watt power supply to amply run this card.
