Hey all. I'm looking for a new card as I upgrade my system.

I'm in the 200USD range (300 CAN) and am looking at the TI4800SE. The 9700/8 pros are out of my price range. Do you think I should stick with the 4800 or get the cheaper 4200? I'll have an 8XAGP 2.4GHZ to go along with it eventually with at least 512MB of RAM. Games, just games... I have an ATI for all my video needs.

Your input please.

Thanks in advance.

What about a 9500 Pro? or a 9700 non-pro? The latter will outperform Ti 4200 thru Ti 4600. I think 9500 Pro is around Ti 4600 territory.

Not sure sure where Ti4800 SE stands. It's clocked a little higher than Ti4600 isn't it? Still behind 9700 non-pro, though, in performance.

99% is great, unless you are talking about system stability

Buy a Radeon 9500 Pro. It's better and newer generation card

Ti4800 is just a Ti4600 with AGP 8X. It's not clocked higher than Ti4600

if I remember, Ti4200 beats Radeon9500 Pro SLIGHTLY in Standard mode (640x480, 800x600, no AA, no AF)
but with those features enabled, Radeon9500 Beat Ti series EASILY
and another thing is, Radeon 9500 supports DX9 which Ti series don't.

Personally, If I were you Id save a little more and get the 9700 Pro. $299 on Newegg.com. Its going to last ALOT longer than the other cards as it will be a long time until a video card comes out that gives a noticeable improvement over it.

Im speaking out of experiance... I had a MX440. I thought upgrading to a Ti would be all Id need to be happy... So I did Ti4200. Well, the gain was minimal, and the Ti4200, as well as all Ti's, are becoming outdated compared to the upper Ati's. Had I gotten a Ti4800 instead of 4200, the gain would have still been minimal...

I bought a 9700 Pro last week because I couldnt take knowing that my upgrade was still leagues behind the field... Now that I bit my lip and cringed as I spent the $299, Im more than thankful knowing the amazing performance boost I gained will last a long time to come because like I said, no cards are coming out that are clearly and noticeably better than the 9700 Pro, especially no cards worth their $500 price tag.

Thanks for the help.

Is there a way to get newegg to ship to Canada or is there a comparable site which does?

Ok, I'm a fellow Canadian, so I know the choices you're making. But I have a fairly good idea. Do this:

1. Get a R9500 Pro for $262CDN if you don't mind OEM, and if you have to have a retail Built by ATi card, get one for $294, both of these being at Canadacomputers.com. I've had really good results with this store, I order from further away (maritimes) and shipping's fairly fast, (on average 2 business days, so don't order on Friday, cause it'll only get to you on the next tuesday lol, if you're impatient like me) and I like the C.O.D. payment, you can just pay when you get your stuff.

A Ti4800SE is $311 at canadacomputers, but the R9500 Pro beats the Ti4400 (which is the AGP4X of Ti4800SE, almost no difference) pretty consistantly and with AA/AF, it'll totally destroy the Ti4800SE.

If you want to get an even better performing card, get the R9700 non pro Sapphire OEM from canadacomputers for $365. I got this card, and mine was actually a R9700 Pro with 2.86ns Samsung RAM. I flashed the BIOS and am now running as a R9700 Pro.

...And all the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put my computer back together again...
