TL;DR Version since I just realise how long that post was:
CPU: Intel i7 920 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/BX80601920.html
MOBO: DFI LANPARTY DK X58-T3EH6 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/JR-X58-T3H6.html
RAM: Corsair TR3X6G1600C9 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/TR3X6G1600C9.html
VIDEO CARD: Single Sapphire HD4890 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/HD4890-1GB.html
PSU: Corsair TX-850 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/CMPSU-850TXAU.html
HDD:
- OS Drive: Old 32Gb(?) WD Raptor,
- Storage Drive: Seagate 1000GB 1TB 32M Barracuda -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/HDDST31000333AS.html
CASE: Cooler Master Mystique 632 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/C-RC632KKN.html
OPTICAL DRIVE: Generic DVD DL Burner Combo Drive
MONITOR: Already have 22" 1680x1050 Chimei LCD planning to upgrade
It's that time again... I've built a few systems in the past, old tech though and I'm a bit out of date on the new stuff, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated. For the most part I'm just check to make sure these parts play nicely together, but if you've got any ideas for how it could be better within the price range I'll be very thankful.
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: 2 days from now, running on a time constraint or I'd wait to see how i5's, DX11, W7 etc pan out
BUDGET RANGE: As in title, $2000 AUD, so roughly $1500 USD to give an idea of the parts
SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: ~90% Gaming, new games mostly (Crysis, COD4, Demigod, rts/fps) however the system MUST agree with some form of Linux, hopefully Ubuntu, since I need to do work for my uni course.
PARTS:
CPU: Intel i7 920 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/BX80601920.html
Wanted to get into the new socket for a little bit of upgradability. 920 seems like pretty good value for money
MOBO: DFI LANPARTY DK X58-T3EH6 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/JR-X58-T3H6.html
I realize there's probably "better" cheaper boards out there but I'm very enthusiastic about getting a DFI board. A year or so ago a mate got a new computer with one in it and hasn't stopped telling me how good it is. I guess it left an impression.
RAM: Corsair TR3X6G1600C9 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/TR3X6G1600C9.html
Couldn't find much good looking stuff that didn't seem to expensive on the website :S
VIDEO CARD: Single Sapphire HD4890 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/HD4890-1GB.html
Cheapest 4890 on that site, just searching 4890 is the best way to find them, the sites a bit rubbish.... I'd consider getting one of the HIS factory over clocked ones but I've heard they produce a lot of noise under load
PSU: Corsair TX-850 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/CMPSU-850TXAU.html
Love Corsair stuff, used it a lot and its always worked great. High wattage since I'd like to crossfire or atleast upgrade the video card in the future.
HDD:
OS Drive: Old 32Gb(?) WD Raptor, already had it from my last computer, but ended up taking it out when I gave the computer to someone else. Its like 4 years old now but only seen ~2 years of use and even then wasn't used a great deal. Still not sure if its a good idea to be using it, thoughts?
Storage Drive: Seagate 1000GB 1TB 32M Barracuda 7200.11 SATA -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/HDDST31000333AS.html
OPTICAL DRIVES:
Random generic DVD DL Burner Combo drive
CASE:
Pretty undecided on this, don't want a window, but I'd like something out of the ordinary, alumnium is a big plus to since I go to lans from time to time.

Cooler Master Mystique 632 -> http://www.xpmicro.com.au/cgi-bin/xpmicro/C-RC632KKN.html
MONITOR:
I've already got an oldish 22" 1680x1050 Chimei LCD, its a bit of a let down, but I'll buy a new screen a little way down the road.
Any suggestions on that one?
OS: Main would be Vista 64-bit Home Prem as above though needs to run Linux in some form.
OVERCLOCKING: Yes, but only on stock equipment, not interested in trying for benchmark records or anything, just want a bit more value. Good chance I'll get more enthusiastic about this in the future though.
CROSSFIRE: Eventually, price is pretty set at the moment, but I'll have more money to spend on this as time goes buy. Looking at a second 4890 in the future, however, if the DX11 cards end up being a big deal I can sell the single card I'll have and get a new DX11 card...
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
I'll be getting everything from that website since I can get to the store front easily and they'll price match pretty much the cheapest chain in Australia prices here -> http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf
Sorry if this has turned into a bit of a rant, trying to be descriptive Thanks again
