$2000 build for Photoshop CS5/6, 24HD Cintiq, Adobe products

First this site is great. I learned more here at the forums then anywhere else on the web. So kudos to the community here.

My second build. Mainly for my 24HD Cintiq and photoshop, windows 8 64, dual monitor + cintiq, adobe products, over building so it will last, ordering from new egg, don't mind some overkill.

CASE - Corsair 650D (I'm set on this)

POWER SUPPLY - ? (I have no idea)

MOTHER BOARD - Asus P9X79 WS (could use some advice) (Asus seems to be recommended a lot)

CPU - Intel i7-3930k (I'm set on this)

CPU COOLER - ? (No idea, I may not overclock but I'm a believer that if a great cooler can help when you overclock why not have it for normal use, plus I'll at least have the option if I want to down the road)

RAM - Corsiar vengeance 16gb or G.SKILL Heard these mentioned a lot. (No idea but I want a lot so I can avoid a scratch disk) (plus I heard that having dual 8 is better so you can fill it up to 32 later. I have many adobe apps, music, internet, etc, running at once)

GPU - Nvida GForce 560 or lower? (I'm set on Nvida and posibly the g force series, love their product, some editing, dual cards, set up for two monitors and a cintiq, maybe I'll eventually get a third monitor since I will have a left over slot, I know it may be overkill for photoshop but I don't mind spending 200 on each graphics card.

DISK - Samsung 128 gb SSD x 3?. Heard this Samsung was reliable. I want SSD setup. (1st) OS on separate SSD, (2nd) Photoshop on another SSD and maybe other programs?, (3rd) then I'm guessing for temp files, music, etc. (4th) I generally by habit work from files from an external usb drive... should I be better off to have another SSD to work on from my computer, like a portable one? IDK. Either way I don't need too much memory right now on my computer I'm using only 44GB total on my c drive plus 3-4 externals. Rather smaller but more.

RAID CONTROLLER - Just curious what this is? I'm assuming I don't need it.

3 SSD's is pointless, cos with editing youre gonna run out of space even with 1 tb very fast. Get 1 Samsung 830 128 GB SSD and maybe a 2-3 tb hard drive. All your software goes in the SSD and all the media goes into the HDD.

For multi- monitor setups, AMD has the upper hand here. They also have a better GPGPU which is good for rendering. I recommend nothing lower than a HD 7950 if your serious with editing. If your those extremely professional types, I doubt your company would recommend you Gforce or Radeon, cos they're mainly for gaming. Possibly the Quadro or Firepro series.

1200W is massive overkill. Instead of dual 650TIs, get a single 670 - you always want the single strongest GPU you can get instead of two weaker ones, doesn't matter what the uses are for. I don't get the use of extra SSDs though. You might want to consider an ATI Fire Pro as well.

I'm thinking about the nhd14se2011 cooler in the future as I get familiar with overclocking. As far as ssd memory goes I work with very little need for hard-drive memory. So I will put my OS and APPS on one 128gb 830ssd and everything else on another 840ssd 128gb. I work a lot off external drives.

For dual GPUs I'd say 850W minimum, but make sure you get a quality PSU from something like Corsair or Seasonic.

You will need a cooler as the 3930K doesn't come with one (Intel assumes the people paying this much for a CPU have one already). If you want a basic cooler that doesn't cost a lot maybe try the Hyper 212 Evo, but you will need the X79 retention bracket in order for it to work, but that's only an extra $4.00.

I'd say get the SSD and HD - the SSD will fill up quickly and you don't want to load it beyond 80% capacity or risk drive slow down and failure. That's what the mass storage drive is for. It can take more punishment in terms of read - write than the SSDs can.

I thought a X79 retention bracket would be included since it's so much money to buy the processor? So two questions.

1. Should I get any X79 bracket? Any recommendations?

2. I'm purchasing Arctic Cooling Arctic MX-4 Thermal Compound -4gram for the Hyper 212 Evo? Any paste recommendations, something easy to apply but also works great of course?

3. Does the Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 140mm and 120mm SSO CPU Cooler come with it's own bracket. I'm in between this and the Evo. Only reason I didn't purchase this was it may not fit my 650D case, RAM? If I have plenty of room I may just get it. Thoughts?

Just found this retention braket. I'm assuming you have to get one compatable with the cooler.

750W is the bare minimum for a dual GPU setup and the cards are more energy efficient than ever. Online wattage calculators are never reliable because they don't take current hardware into effect.

Not needed. If you get a good fan it will come with some good thermal compound - there's no need to buy extra. Cooler Master and Noctua both include good solutions.
