I have a 2008 Mac pro 3,1 OS 10.8.5 with a 8254x Ethernet card (Stock). I have a high speed internet connection, however I'm only pulling down 200mbps download speeds. is that a limitation of the card? What speed is this card capable of? Can it be upgraded to get the benefit of a 750mbps download speed. My upload speed is 20mbps. Thats where it is supposed to be. Thanks for any help. Apple was of no help since my machine is "Obsolete".

Solution
The card is more than capable, but the os, what is running, etc, makes a difference on the max speed the card can transfer.

To test the card, use iperf on the lan and it should easily hit 900Mbps+. If it does not, then there might be an issue with the card.

As far as these speeds via the Internet, I would use fast.com and dslreports.com/speedtest to see if that makes a difference.
