Hi there, I have a 2009 built PC, Asus P7P55D motherboard, flashed with Version 2003 BIOS published in 2011. i7 860/Win7 pro 64/16GB. The machine was built with two ATI Radeon HD4600 cards to run four monitors but these have been done away with in favour of one Dell 3818 monitor capable of 3840 x 1600 resolution. Everything works but the monitor resolution is being strangled by the GPU. I've found no help from any manufacturers websites so am asking here if I can get a new GPU that will support the monitor properly? The machine is in a small office and used for emails, Word and Excel, never used for any gaming or graphics hungry applications. Can anybody help me out please?

Solution
What do you intend to use the PC for?
What CPU do you have?

Here's some info.....maybe it will help.
I'm running an ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard from 2008 with a GTX 1080.
My CPU is an i7-980 (one of the fastest CPUs for the socket) and it barely can support the GTX 1080.
I can play everything at 1080p, ultra at 60 fps.

The thing is....I don't think I could ever game at 3840 x 1600 even with the 1080 without getting awful fps.

....and I can't up the GPU anymore without upping the CPU and I can't up the CPU because I'm upped almost as far as I can go.

So if you intend to game with it....I think you will run into the same thing.
