2012 Nexus 7 cannot connect to pc

Hi all, I am trying to install a custom ROM onto my nexus to improve performance, however when i plug it in the tablet does not connect to my or any other pc where other phones can, so it is not the cable. I'm not sure what to do, thanks for your help!

Also, I have tried factory resetting the tablet, and also changing the file protocol from MTP to PTP

Also, nothing shows in the device menu and there is no notification when i plug it in.

what os are you using?with mac os you wont be able to do much to an android device,but lets start from the beginning does your nexus shows that it is chargin when connected via usb cable?

I'm using Windows 7 and yes, it shows as charging but as I said there is nothing to show that its connected to the pc on either the tablet or the pc.

Have you tried cache partition without? Or maybe a restore to defaults to the nexus?
