Question 2013 MacBook Pro battery issues

My Mum's macbook pro needs to be plugged into power at all times. The minute it gets unplugged, it instantly shuts down, but when the power is plugged back in, it claims that the battery is on 97%. It sounds like a faulty battery, but this happened all of a sudden, and there was no loss of battery life before this started happening. Help!

You need to check the cycle count of the battery. Its likely going to need to be replaced. Go under the apple logo, then click about this mac, then system info (next to software upgrade) and you will get a window with a bunch of information. On the left column you will find "power" and in there you will find information about the battery.
