I'm working on putting together a new desktop gaming PC build. I'm looking to order the parts in a couple weeks. Any help I can get to make sure I'm getting the most bang for my buck would be appreciated.

Here's what I'm looking at:

MSI GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 GTX 1060 GAMING X 3G 3GB 192-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready ATX Video Card

AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W FD8350FRHKBOX Desktop Processor

ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD10EZEX - OEM

Kingston SSDNow UV400 2.5" 240GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SUV400S37/240G

Thermaltake SMART Series SP-650PCBUS 650W ATX 12V 2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Intel Z170 Platform Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-8GVK

Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BK 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

ASUS 24X DVD Burner

I'm looking for a case with at least 3 120mm fan slots and a few drive slots on the front. Any recommendations for that would be greatly appreciated as well. Is there anything else I can change to optimize this build?

Here you go.
If you add $30 to your budget, I can put in a 240GB SSD and a 1TB HDD.

Here you go! :)
To be honest, a 2TB HDD is the best choice for gaming PCs if you store lots of high file size games like GTA, The Witcher etc. and it's only $10 more, so if you feel you need that space upgrade to this: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/KyCwrH/seagate-internal-hard-drive-st2000dm001
Apart from that you're set! Enjoy! :)

Hey Chugalub_ you've been more than helpful, thanks a lot! The only other question is if there's anything comparable to the GTX 1070 that would be more cost effective?

Here's my opinion on what you should go with,

Solution

Not really, no.
It's either 1070 or the next step down which is the 1060, which is about 65% of the 1070s power i'd say.
I recommend just sticking with the 1070. :)
