I have a Gigabyte motherboard with 4 x 2048MB Kingston sticks. This has been working fine for about 3 years. Yesterday my PC was trouble starting. had to reboot about 5 times. Now my memory shows up as 4 x 512mb. A memory test and CPU-Z all show memory ok and 2048mb but motherboard insists it is 512mb.
I have tried removing and reseating but still the same
Help please!!!

First off if your running a 32 bit OS then take two sticks out because it will recognize a max of 4, or install a 64 bit version. Also if your using a 1st generation i5 - i7 loosen up the heatsink a bit if its too tight you can lose memory channels. System specs would tell us more, may also help if your motherboard has a NB to increase the voltage, or if its newer and has an integrated memory controller to increase the vccio and dimm voltage.

Tried resetting CMOS but still the same. I am running 64 bit Windows 8. Never had any problems with memory until now. Always been recognised as 8MB. Windows Control panel says 16mb (2mb available)
