Hey, I used these forums along with a few other sites to help me pick out a new monitor. I decided on the viewsonic p95f+
It's been looking and working great except when I put it up to its max resolution of 2048x1536. At this point the picture appears to be bigger than the screen. When I move my mouse over to the edge however, the picture moves so that I can see that area. I tried using the built in height/width adjustments but that would only increase the size of the borders and I'd still have the same problem. Is this how it's supposed to be? Was the advertisement of 2048x1536 resolution only a marketing scam?

Can't say about your moniter, but I have the SyncMaster 955DF (samsung 19") and it does the same thing when set to 1600x1200.

Have you got the correct drivers installed for the monitors? If windows doesn't realise what the monitors are capable of, then it might do the 'virtual desktop' thing which you describe.
