2060 or wait for AMD?

I wanted to wait for AMD, but with the 590 priced only a little less than a 2060 and performing significantly worse, the 2060 is a much better choice. What are the odds AMD will have something at 400 or less that beats out a 2060 by 20% or more? If this isn't coming then no point to wait further. The other option would be if they release a card at 300$ or less equal or better than a 2060.

I have a rx 480 now and the 2060 is impressive for the price. Some benchmarks on an OC'd 2060 are right there with a stock 2070. Think it's worth waiting further? I have until March until the new games are going to be out.

It's a shame the 590 is priced where it is. Once I go close to 300$ it only makes sense to get a 2060, but if a 590 were only 250 I would grab one until I make the move to 4k in about 18 to 24m.

One thing I wonder about the 1070ti.. let's say a 1070ti and 2060 are equal, would a 2060 perform better on upcoming high end games because it's a newer card? Because of newer architecture, etc.. would the ti need to be replaced sooner?

I actually just got a deal on a Vega 56. I had purchased an RX 590 from microcenter, and then a few days later saw the rtx 2060 coming out. So I actually returned the 590 tonight and picked up the Vega 56. I haven't actually installed it yet but looking forward to it.

The sticker on the box actually says it was $464 originally. I paid $339.

The thing that pushed me away from the rtx 2060, which is what I'd been intending to buy was the fact it only has 6gb of vram. I know one review was saying some games take 5.5 or more gb of vram. So you wonder in a year or 2 if ygb vram will be enough.

Thanks for the info. Going to either get a vega56 or 1070ti if it's on a good sale or nice used model, a 2060 or a 590 only if the game bundle with division 2 is going on and I can also get it on sale for about 260. This would make it 200$ since I'm buying division regardless.

If I'm saving 150$ it's enough to justify the 590. Even if it didn't last as long the money you save and also make from selling it definitely makes up for it.

Good point about the vram, not sure how much you use at 1440p vs 1080p. 6gb is definitely enough at 1080p, but I know 4 struggles sometimes so at 1440p it could struggle with 6 I imagine

is that so? when AMD officially priced RX590 at $275 instead of $150 (the slightly slower RX480 comes out in 2016 at $250 so after more than two years this kind of performance should officially drop down to $150 mark already not counting any discount) and the Radeon VII that "goes head to head" with 2080 at the same price i don't think AMD will aggressively pushing the price vs nvidia offering. they will match it or make it slightly cheaper but i don't think AMD will make killer deal from the get go like 20-25 percent faster for the same price.

when nvidia raise the pricing bar with the RTX series it is something that AMD have waited for so long. nvidia already give them huge pressure when it comes to pricing during maxwell and pascal generation.

i don't know if AMD intend to "steal" some sales from 2080. i agree though they want to hold people from going nvidia with it but to do so AMD need to show more than just having the performance and price. while having the first 7nm GPU on the market sounds nice from marketing stand point it does not have the "wow" effect like how it was before. remember when AMD was first to make high end GPU with 40nm node the 5870 was the fastest GPU at the time. same case with 7970 even if the performance gap between 7970 and GTX580 are not as big as 5780 vs GTX285. they might want to show what they can do with 7nm right now but i think for majority of people in their mind what nvidia can do with 7nm probably even more scary.

Kind of like when ryzen first launched though. They've really turned that into a good product. Hopefully the same will be true here as well. I was at microcenter and the employee I was talking to said he got to go to AMD hq recently and they got to sit down with some of the AMD folks and talk to them. He said that one of them after a few drinks was telling him they think around 2020-2021 they will crush Nvidia and Intel.

You can see on CPU side how well they are doing, and he was saying with 7nm, they may be able to start doing multiple GPUs on a card. So sounds kind of like crossfire on a single card. Don't ask me how true all those rumors are, but that would be very interesting indeed.

I can agree with that. He was just asking they other. But really, what we know now are rumors of what AMD will release.

Personally I was between the rtx 2060 and a Vega 56. I chose the Vega. My thinking was more memory, and sometimes AMD drivers am to get better down the line. Plus you don't know how that 2060 will do in a year with 6gb of vram. It might be bumping against that limit now. And with Vega, some folks say you can overclock Vega 56 to almost as fast as Vega 64, which is basically a gtx 1080 speed. Or if you prefer, probably somewhere near an rtx 2070.

I would say if the op wants to wait, that's ok, but there are some good deals to be had now. I think I saw on eBay last night a listing from Newegg for a Vega 56 for 300. In fact.... Here it is.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/PowerColor-RED-DRAGON-Radeon-RX-Vega-56-DirectX-12-AXRX-VEGA-56-8GBHBM2-2D2HD-OC/302688096467?epid=28019863353&hash=item46799dd0d3%3Ag%3AXKgAAOSwqGlav4iU&LH_BIN=1

Looking again, that's cheaper than their normal site. But the seller is Newegg in the eBay listing.

That sounds fishy to me. Why would Newegg be selling merchandise on Ebay? An why would they undercut there own website.

Not sure on that, but my cooler master case came fine from their eBay store. As far as why they sell there, probably just to reach a broader market I'm guessing, everyone shopping on eBay may not be aware of Newegg. They are almost a niche etailer you may not be aware of unless you are a computer nerd.

I was surprised to not see but a couple rx590 models. I really want to buy MID to the point that I'm considering waiting now. I prefer MSI more than AMD over Intel, but I don't even see an MSI rtx2060. A lot of the 2060 cards are closer to 400 than 350$.

Is anyone surprised by so little variants? Do you expect MSI cards to appear at some point? The vega64 on eBay looks great, but I'm really worried about the brand.

If I knew for certain a 590 would run 60fps ultra or near it at 1080p for 18 to 24 months then I would get it regardless of msi or not and just revisit this when I upgrade my display. Some benchmarks are close enough that it worries me some of the future games with higher requirements will struggle a bit. Thr 2060 definitely will, but if im paying around 400$ for a non reference card it better be the brand and model i actually want

Well the RTX 2060's are newly released.

Here is one.

MSI GeForce RTX 2060 DirectX 12 RTX 2060 VENTUS 6G OC 6GB 192-Bit GDDR6 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137380

I'm assuming they are using it to reach now customers. But I ordered my current PC case through their eBay store and it appeared brand new and not open box or anything.

Anyway, that MSI ventus is the card I was looking at. I was between that and the Vega. Should be a decent card.

I will say as far as the Vega I got, I'm happy with it so far. Got it installed today, runs far cry 5 on max at 1080p at 90-100fps I think. Wasn't always watching fraps lol. But it does seem to run pretty cool. When I was measuring, I had the side of the case so keep that in mind, but after 2 hours of far cry 5, the highest temp I saw that I'm aware of was 70 C

When I picked up my card from microcenter, I was talking to the guys there, I got the last of those Vega cards at that store, they seemed to think maybe people were waiting for the rtx 2060 and that people were a little disappointed by what they saw. I think when I was looking earlier in the week they had 10 or so of those Vega 56 cards. When I got mine Friday, that was the last one of those in the store.

Awesome, I was on newegg last night and didn't see the MSI model. It's not a gaming x looking all sexy, but still looks nice. It's exactly 350 which is great.

Looks like a new line from them. As much as I want this I'm more tempted to wait just in case they start dropping beefed up models for a little more. I also plan to get anthem so that bundle is great. Think this might be the card, really tempting. I think I might wait till the week before division 2 drops to see if a higher model comes out from them. Thanks for that link
