My build is:

I7 Sandy Bridge 2600K

GTX 580 GPU

SSD drive

NEED a 21” (IPS) Monitor

Due to space considerations I am looking for a solid higher –end monitor, superior in response time for gaming and aviation simulations.

No humming noise

Price points >$200 <$1,000 each

Be able to handle throughput from CPU and GPU, IPS, and whatever else would make the monitor great!

I’ll eventually need two monitors.

Regards

Dell's u2410 is solid (though to reduce input lag, put it in game mode.)

Don't rely on response time numbers, look at reviews that show PixPerAn screen shoots, and judge the ghosting for yourself.

What do you mean by superior in response time?

IPS monitors generally have response times of 5ms to 14ms. There are basically 4 variants of IPS panels which are H-IPS, P-IPS S-IPS and e-IPS. The e-IPS panel are low end IPS panels, while the others are high end IPS panels. There is no middle ground. The smallest high end IPS panel are in 24" monitors to the best of my knowledge. That leaves you with e-IPS for something that is around 21".

Most e-IPS panels have 8ms response times and a few have 14ms response time. 14ms response times means those monitors do not have response time acceleration technology. There may be a few e-IPS panels with 6ms response time using aggressive response time acceleration. But if 6ms response time is too slow for your tastes, then you need to consider TN panels monitors.
