Hey
I was going to buy a monitor last year but I never actually did because the good screens weren't out yet. Now, however, there are plenty to choose from. I have a BenQ 1920x1080 120hz 24" screen now, and I'd like to try higher resolutions, but do you think the difference between 2560x1080 and 2560x1440 is very noticeable? 21:9 seems really cool because I watch lots of movies and series (although many series are 16:9) but that screen has lower res.
The one I had in mind was the acer predator 21:9 curved with g-sync and all.

What would you do? 21:9 or slightly higher res?
Sorry for bad post, it's late 🙁

I looked at the PG278Q for a long time, still kind of regret not doing it. They say for a TN panel it has excellent color and I don't really need the viewing angles (Though I am not sure what all the hype is about, my PG279Q is certainly readable at angles, but I wouldn't consider that a good picture) Though AHVA isn't exactly like other IPS/PLS techniques.

But this should be fine for the next few years when the panel manufacturers get off their bums and start making mid-size OLED displays. (sub 11" or 60" plus are the only options right now, pretty sure they are doing it so they don't have to re-tool their LCD factories or get into more patent wars)

2560x1440 seems to be decent.

There is a 3440x1440 75Hz G-Sync out there if you want to stick with 21:9, about a $1000 though.

2560x1440 at greater then 100hz takes some serious GPU horsepower. Might want to consider that before making a purchase. The 165hz feature of the ROG Swift is not that good, it has better input and anti-ghosting at the normal 144hz the panel is built for.

The curved predator is actually more than $1000 here now :/
I have a 980ti atm and I could possibly get another one in the future but..
The 165hz screen is also a predator (XB271HU or smt)
Ima take a look at that 75hz screen :)

Edit: IPS is a must since I haven't tried that before :O
Did you mean the x34? 60hz overclockable to 100hz? Not that my 980ti is gonna make that lol but it's a nice display

XB271HU and PG279Q use the same AUOptronics panel. XB270HU uses a slightly older version, and the original G-sync module. These newer ones offer a second non-gsync HDMI input, which I find quite handy to hook my other computer up to.

Yeah, these monitors are a little too new. I almost regret the $800 I spent on the PG279Q on day zero. It is good, just not sure it is $800 good. I have a feeling AMD is going to take the market for high speed gaming with their freesync platform. Nvidia will probably have to follow suit at some point and at least offer adaptive sync support.

Late reply but I wanted to try some gaming on 100fps and compare it to 120 and the difference is actually pretty clear to me now that I've been on 120hz for so long :/ The curved 3440x1440 seems so nice but if I'm going to pay that much I don't know if I want to sacrifice refresh rate. It looks like I'm either getting the flat 2560x1440 predator or the curved 2560x1080. The unsatisfying thing about gaming on the screen that I have now is that wires and edges are so rough and it can't always be fixed with anti-aliasing.

My friend told me that he had seen a predator monitor in a local store so maybe I can take a look at it and hopefully it will be easier to choose between the higher res. and 21:9. Maybe 21:9 will make me focus less on edges and stuff. Anyways, I'll come back when I've been to the store.

Well
I just remembered that the store I was talking about closed for good not long ago so now I can't see it irl
I guess plan B is to drive almost 60 miles south and compare them side-by-side.
21:9 vs higher pixel density, how am I ever gonna decide lol?

Edit: I see that many people are disappointed with the 2560x1080 resolution so I guess I'll go with the XB271HU. Maybe, as you said, there will be some sweet, curved, 21:9, high res. OLED screens in the future with high refresh rate. Until then I'll just go with the 16:9.
