21:9 monitor or better cpu ?

So i am bulding my first pc this summer and i was wondering , should i spend abit more of my build's budget and get a 21:9 monitor instead of a 16:9 monitor or use that money on an i7 processor for the performance and future proofing ?

Id stick to an i5 cpu if you are just gaming. I7 isn't needed for gaming

But it's not only performance , won't the i7 be better at multitasking ? I am now using an old laptop which is also overheating . So i want to know that when i make that build i won't feel limited . A few days back i was sure that i would buy an i5 6600k . However seeing gameplays with i5s hitting 100% usage made me rethink it .
