Does 2200Mhz memory 4gb dual channel stack up against 6gb 1600MHz trichannel memory?

I'm kinda pushing the envelope with 4gb as is, but honestly I wouldn't mind upgrading if the performance gain is considerable later down the road as I probably don't NEED 6-8gb for a few more months.
Main thing is I don't knowhow intel tri channel stacks up against dual channel and if having that extra 2gb impacts speed a huge amount if i don't approach the 4gb threshold.
