2200MHz vs 1600MHz question

Does 2200Mhz memory 4gb dual channel stack up against 6gb 1600MHz trichannel memory?

I'm kinda pushing the envelope with 4gb as is, but honestly I wouldn't mind upgrading if the performance gain is considerable later down the road as I probably don't NEED 6-8gb for a few more months.

Main thing is I don't knowhow intel tri channel stacks up against dual channel and if having that extra 2gb impacts speed a huge amount if i don't approach the 4gb threshold.

Memory frequency has very little to do with performance. Latency (or timings if you prefer) has a bit larger impact, so that 1333 @CL8 is probably going to be faster than 1600@CL9.

As to the performance hit when running 4GB on a triple-channel controller, I really have no real idea. I would not expect anything huge, but I would expect something measurable... I would expect tri-channel 1333 CL8 to give you more FPS in a game than two sticks of 1600 CL7 in the same board. Not a lot of FPS difference but a few frames anyway.

That is correct, I was kind of re-searching the topic and came across your answer that clearly explained the question and was left un-credited, and I thought it deserved BA mark up : ))
