224 pins ram memory

Hi,

I need to buy some RAM memory for my desktop PC and I noticed that the MB (Asus P5N-E SLI) needs 224 pins RAM to function, Yet, I can't find such RAM. Is there any other type of RAM (200 pins, or 240 pins, or anything else) that will do the job?

Your motherboard requires DDR2 DIMMs which have 240 pins. Any source that cites 224 pins is incorrect and probably a typo.

You just need DDR2. It's obsolete and harder to find these days but it's still around. It will likely be expensive. Standard 240pin DDR2 is what it needs though.

@Pinhedd: the source is my own counting. I literally counted the pins and there are 112 pins on each side of the slot, for a total of.... 224

@Agera One: I was thinking about 4GB of RAM as long as it costs me less than $50 (including shipping). Oh, and I only want NEW memory DIMMs (that come with waranty), not used ones. As for the site, I have no preference. I checked Amazon cause they are bigger and have good prices but I'm not too strict on where I will buy the memory as long as I find 4GB of RAM that work on my PC, that come with warranty and which are reasonably priced (less than $50 as I said)

I actually did find quite a few PC2-6400 (800MHz) DDR2 DIMMs that work in Dual Channel (like my MB supports). The problem with these DIMMs is that they ALL have 240 pins. I am at work now, but when I get back home (in about 6 hours or so) I will take a good look inside of my computer and check if the RAM I actually have mounted on my MB have 224 pins, or something else.

According to the Asus site I linked to above it uses DDR2. There is no such thing a 224pin DDR2. That's why I posted a link to the Wiki. Desktop DDR2 is 240 pin. Laptop DDR2 SODIMMs are 200 pin.

Obsolete in that no modern CPUs use DDR2 anymore and haven't for close to 5 years. Core2 and AMD STARS chips ( Phenom ) were the last to support it. That is also around the time memory controllers became part of the CPU with the motherboard not mattering anymore.

I looked at the link you've sent and there's 2 problems with the DIMMs on that website:

1) they go beyond my budget
2) they don't ship to Romania

Well, my computer is bought in 2007 so....

But anyway, as I said in the first reply I will look at the RAM I have installed on my machine when I get home and if those 2 DIMM's have 240 pins indeed, then I will buy some DIMMs from Amazon most likely, since I found some cool ones (below $40, shipped in the same day and that come with lifetime warranty) there.

I found plenty of 240 pins memories but my concern was that they wouldn't fit in my 224 pin slot. Besides, I did some research on the biggest on/offline shops here in Romania and they have RAM that is at least 40-50% more expensive than on Amazon and the alikes. That's so annoying...

There's no such think as a 224 pin DIMM. You counted them incorrectly. That motherboard uses industry standard DDR2 DIMMs; this can easily be verified on Asus' website.
