I'm looking to buy a new 23-24 inch monitor for gaming and music editing use. I don't play much competitive gaming (mostly single-player stuff) so I'm not entirely decided whether to go for TN or IPS - the faster response time of TN would be great, but not entirely necessary, and I'm drawn by the nicer colours and viewing angles of IPS. I've therefore narrowed down my choice to two TN monitors and two IPS monitors. Let me know what you think:

TN
- BenQ GL2450HM
The cheapest (can usually go for around £100 on Amazon warehouse deals) - although I'm not entirely sure why. Are there any glaringly obvious downsides to this choice?

- Asus VE247H

Usually around £110 on Amazon. How does this compare with the BenQ? On another thread, one person seems to prefer the Asus, but it's not entirely clear if it's any better than the BenQ.

IPS
- Asus VC239H
Can get this for ~£105 on Amazon. I'm a big fan of the thin bevels, but on a more technical side, how does it compare to the...

- AOC I2369VM
The most expensive, currently at £125 for a like-new version (although I'm sure other deals will become available). This display always seems to come out very well in reviews, but how much better is it than the IPS Asus? Worth the extra money?

Apologies in advance if 4 displays are a bit much for a comparison, but I thought it'd be best to get opinions on both TN and IPS displays in the same thread. It would be great to hear what you all think. Thanks.

I am a casual to somewhat competitive gamer. I have both TN and IPS. My TN panel is a 24" ASUS 1080p 144hz monitor and my IPS is a 25" Acer 1440p monitor.

I prefer the IPS panel HANDS DOWN. Even if the IPS panel was 1080p, I would prefer that over the TN by a lot. Most IPS panels are going to be perfectly fine with regards to response time/input lag, especially if competitive gaming isn't something you are into. I would go with IPS in your case.

As for your comparison between the 2 IPS panels, I think either will work great for your needs. I have no experience with either, so many someone else will be able to shed more light, but they both seem very similar.

Thanks for the informative answer regarding TN vs IPS. I was already leaning towards IPS and you've made my mind up.

Any experiences or information regarding the two IPS panels (Asus VC239H vs AOC I2369VM) from anyone else would be much appreciated.

Just got one of the ASUS VC239H monitors. A very good unit with a bright high-contrast display that worked well right out of the box and needed no adjustments.

Thanks lillard, that's the one I think I'll get.
