So I've been looking around for a good 24" monitor to replace my aging 22". I'm leaning towards the U2410 but I'm wary after reading the reviews of color tinting. My question is whether or not there's another monitor out there that's comparable to the Dell. Hopefully one that has a 16x10 aspect ratio and is around $500 usd. I'll be using it for pretty much everything: gaming, movies, and image editing (not professional work but I'd like to think I'm fairly discerning.)

I've looked into the HPs and don't think they're quite my cup of tea, and the stuff from LaCie is generally out of my budget. Are there other monitors out there that I may have missed? Or should I take the risk and just buy the u2410? Other than the color tinting and the need to calibrate it really does sound like a good monitor.

P.S.

Does anyone know of any manufacturers other than apple that make glass coated displays? Glare has never been an issue for me and I really think glass coated displays look a lot better than matte ones.

Thanks in advance.

Go for the U2410, best set of connections and has the best image. The tint is not much compared to what the monitor really capable of. Look on Ebay for deals around 300 for them :)
Also 16x10 is the best haha

HP makes the zr24w, it still uses an IPS panel (but isn't wide-gamut) and can be bought direct from hp for $425 before shipping/taxes/etc. You can probably find it cheaper elsewhere though. It's probably the best alternative if you want 24'' 16:10 and don't want/don't like the dell.

Link to hp's site (It's sold as a buisness monitor, not in their home/home office section)

Here's a review of the zr24w:

edit: sorry, didn't notice you weren't interested in hp either... If you don't want HP, dell, or LaCie, that really only leaves NEC as a manufacturer that sells 16:10 monitors. At least that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I don't know their products very well, maybe someone else can reccomend one of NEC's monitors.

An alternative to the Dell U2410 is the new Asus PA246Q which has been on sale for as low as $440 - $450 I believe.

Here's a review, but it's in German so you will need to use Google's language translation tool to convert it to English. Prad.de does have an English version of the review, but you need to pay for it.

I am considering replacing my Asus VK246H monitor with the Asus PA246Q either later this year or sometime next year. Thus, ridding myself of my one and only TN panel monitor. At that point all my monitors and my HDTV will be IPS panels.
