It's 90% in just a few mm until it latches but it refuses to budge. I've applied a lot of force even had to put a piece of cardboard under the mobo to stop it bending so much. I've read other threads about this some people say it doesn't have to click, some say it's risky to use it without. What should I do?

Edit: Should add that it's not wiggling or loose at all. It's pretty firmly fitted in there

Pull it back out and make sure there are no foreign objects in the bottom of the socket, not even like lint. Check for bent pins. It should absolutely fully seat until the locks engage. If the locks don't engage it is not seated. It does not have to "click" audibly, but it DOES have to be seated far enough for the lock tabs to be engaged.

If your 24 pin connector consists of a 20+4 pin pair of connectors, make sure you have the 4 pin at the correct end of the 20 pin.
