I am in the process of building a computer for the first time, however I have encountered a problem. The 24 pin cable on my corsair power supply is not connecting to the 24 pin connector on my mother board. After much effort attempting to get the two together, I returned my original mother board and purchased a new one. I am experiencing the same problem with my new mother board. Even with enough pressure to flex the case wall that the motherboard is mounted to, the 24 pin cable will not clip into the motherboard. My question is, should I exert even more force or get a new power supply?

Solution
It's a known flaw in the way the CX series 24 pin is made , has a poor clip , once in awhile you see it in the RM series.

It's a common question on the forum ^

RMA it or buy a quality branded PSU.
Check the pins and make sure they are oriented right. Try turning it around, if that doesn't work tell me your power supply and ill look into it. The motherboard may bey useful too.

How old is the PSU (What Model is it?)?
What brand is the MOBO?

The 24pin Header will only go in one way. I suggest you check the pin header carefully for damage and make sure none of the pins are bent. AS you have RMA'd the board, I'd suggest the issue is with the Pin Header or if it's an older PSU, it may predate current ATX 2.2 power connection standards.

Hi,
Turning it around does not work. The power supply is a Corsair CX series CX500 ATX 12V v2.3 80 plus bronze. My mother board is a Gigabyte B85 HD3
Thanks in advance.

Ok first i also suggest carefully examining the pins if the pins are damaged on either RMA that product for a new one. If everything looks good bend the clip a little bit to loosen it up. If your not bending the cable to much to hide it or for airflow and bending it doesn't work you can cut the clip off. I wouldn't break the clip personally because i travel with my pc and it can loosen it while moving. If your pc is stationary youll be fine with breaking it off as long as it isn't moving to much. Your best option by far is getting a different psu. I like the SeaSonic G series myself. They make 550w version of the seasonic g series.
