24" vs 22" resolution.

Hey guys.

Will a 24" 1920x 1080 monitor tax the graphics card more than a 22" monitor of the same resolution?
This question is almost out of pure curiosity, but the answer may affect my new system build.

No, since the resolution is the same.. However, the 24" display will give you little extra viewable area which is always good.. My recommendation however is to look out for a 16:10 aspect ratio (a resolution of 1920 x 1200) while choosing a 24" display..

Size does not matter. I is the resolution that counts.

If you had a 10" 1920 x 1080 monitor and a 125" 1920 x 1080 large screen display, the video card (and the rest of your system) will provide the exact same performance.

thanks a lot. I'm going to build a new system soon, about 1300$ CAD. My current system has 4gb RAM, Gigabyte 5830 and Athlon II X4 @ 3.3GHz.

This has been running games like COD, SC2, ME2 and BFBC2 on a 24" monitor with DirectX 9 (only have windows xp, getting 7 when i buy the new system).

With my new system, I've basically hit my budget but need a monitor--should I get a 1680 x 1050 res. monitor to use with the old system (it's going to my brother), that way the lower resolution will better insure the system for the future?

Well to answer that question you need to consider what games you are going to be playing... Now and in the future. It will take a bit of research on your part to see what that graphics card will do with the games you want to play at the resoulution you want to play them at. There are FPS charts all over toms.. Check the FPS with that 5830 on games now on 1680x1050 vs 1080p.

Consider depending on what types of games you play what next years games are gonna do to those numbers. 1680x1050 might be a little more "future proof" if you aren't going to upgrade that computer again.

Then again, half the fun is upgrading your computer every few years, and in my opinion its worth investing in a good monitor, because a good monitor should last you the life of at least a couple systems.

Check out the new e-ips screens for games. The Dell U2311h changed my life.
