[SOLVED] 240 hz monitor only showing up to 144 hz in settings?

I have the acer VG272 X, plugged it in with the HDMI cable that came in the box, but on both my NVIDIA ctrl panel and display settings, I don't get anything more than 144 hz in any resolution.

I have a cheap graphics card, placeholder friend gave me for now, GeForce GT 710. Is it just the gpu? Because I'm replacing that soon anyways. Not sure about the cable though, it just came with the monitor

You need a video card with HDMI 2.0 or later to get 240Hz over it, for reference. The GT 710 I believe has 1.4.

Thank you, I'll look into it, I'm new to all this PC stuff, usually just bought from stores.
