I bought 8x2 corsair vengeance pro 2400mhz from Amazon.
I have i7 4790 on z87 g55 mobo. I read that in order to run the ram on 2400mhz I'll have to OC them through BIOS. Will I have any problems or it's perfectly fine as I don't want to damage my ram. I figured that since the ram comes 2400 from factory then everything should be fine. Is that correct?

Also, OC those ram to 2666 should also be fine or is it unsafe? (they are pretty quality sticks as far as I see)

The OC is a escape clause in case you can't get it stable at stock settings at advertised speeds simply means some tweaking might be required. You have a nonK processor so no overclocking it, I would not think 2400 will be doable but you might get 2133 you will just have to try it and post back we can help tweak some settings to get decent results.

I also said nothing about overclocking anything, any memory over 1600 is considered overclocking with your motherboard that is what the OC means next to all the memory speed over 1600
DDR3 3000(OC)/2800(OC)/2666(OC)/2600(OC)/2400(OC)/2200(OC)/2133(OC)/2000(OC)/1866(OC)/1600/1333/1066
To get high memory speed a lot of times you need to overclock the processor some but you can't with the processor you listed that is what I stated.

Then I misunderstood you.
So basically, (in some cases) I'll need a higher speed CPU in order to achieve these memory speeds?
How am I supposed to know that it's stable? I mean, 2400mhz are coming from factory so I don't think there will be any problems, I'll just have to set it to 2400 in the BIOS?

2400 is a overclock speed for your motherboard no it is not going to be put it in and boom I'm running my memory at 2400.
Anything over 1600 speed might need changing some BIOS settings to get it to run that speed if you can even get it to run that speed.
Your going to be overclocking to get it to run that speed is what I'm saying.

So it was kinda a waste of money to buy 2400 sticks.

I did not say that you might be able to get it to run 2133/2400 with some tweaking.
