So i currently have a 2400g on a b350 motherboard from asrock. I recently found out they refreshed the 1600 to essentially be a lesser clocked 2600. My question is is getting this processor for 85 bucks and maybe doing a small oc to get it upto 3.4 ghz base a good idea or should i look at getting into 3rd gen ryzen? I dont really want to because it will most likely require me to upgrade my mb to take advantage of new features. I mainly am looking at a gaming standpoint with some light video editing as well as price. the 85 bucks is really compelling and would be a better upgrade than the 2400g. I also have a 1060 6gb, would i worry about bottlenecks if i do an upgrade? Thanks.

You can run a Ryzen 3000 series on you mobo without any issue, I'm not sure what you mean about new features.

As far as upgrading from a 2400G to a 1600, yes it would be a good upgrade. You may want to also look at the Ryzen 2600 as its been on sale for 120 USD lately.

Not really features but the motherboard may not be able to support the chip because of its power delivery and such, i know the 3600 is just as power hungry as the first two sets but i know as boards age they are less good if you will. As for the 2600 if i could get a 2600 just at lower clocks and maybe being able to overclock it a little wouldnt that be better than spending an extra 40? This will be my first upgrade since i built the system over 2 years ago so i want to make sure im future proofed for at least 2 more years before i should consider upgrading the whole system.

you have to do what your budget allows. your ideas don't sound bad to me.

Yeah, if its better to get one over the other then i might as well just save up a tad more and get the better one. Im noticing my system seems to be dragging when gaming and i think its the processor being pegged at 100 all the time(games like bf5 or borderlands 3) and the gpu only being about 70 percent.

I wouldnt throw a 3900 on there but a 3600 would be more then fine most likely.

And yes if you can find one of the Ryzen 1600AFs in stock then buy that, the price is unbeatable. BUt if You can then the 2600 at 120USD is still a good deal.

Not sure what you mean about a 3900, that is way out of my budget, however if i was going brand new id go the 3600, however i dont need brand new, i just need something that works good with my 1060 so gaming preformance will be better while still being relevant for games. Like i said i plan on in a few years probably upgrading everything. Im gonna look at the 1600 af and probably will end up getting it.

Would overclocking it even be worth it or not really? I may get a hyper 212 as well because i know the 2600 runs a touch hot and the spire cooler isnt always the best.
