2400MHz RAM in a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P?

I've been looking for parts and noticed a pretty significant discount on a 8GB kit of Kingston HyperX Beast 2400MHz RAM wich is amazing! However when I looked up the RAM compatibility on the motherboard I noticed it only supported 2000MHz (OC) as the highest speed... Will this be a problem or will my RAM just downclock itself to that speed? or is there something else I might need to know?

Hi,
If your mobo does not support speeds above 2000Mhz you still can buy 2400Mhz RAM but it will downclock the speed to the supported. So anyways you can go and pick it up if it has good discount.

running above 1866mhz also depends strongly on your cpu. you may not be able to run it at that speed even if you have an overclocked cpu.!there wont be any problem running it on lower speeds!

I had a feeling it might work that way, but I couldn't be sure ;D Think I'll buy it then because right now it's cheaper than the BallistiX Sport kit, which is like the cheapest budget RAM for gaming 😛

I'll be using a AMD FX-8350 so I think it should be able to handle 2000MHz on the RAM ;D

- Adata Premier Pro SP900 128GB
- WD Scorpio Blue 750GB (from my dead laptop, think I'll replace it later on with a Caviar blue 1TB)
- Asus USB-AC53
- Windows 8.1 64bit

Peripherals:
- Tt Esports Meka
- Roccat Kone Pure Optical
- Roccat Taito

This will be my first ever gaming PC and I can't wait to go from my old PS3 to this! It'll be a huge jump and I can't wait to go from a choppy experience with poor graphics in BF4 to all maxed out 1080p and well above 60fps 😀 Also I can't wait to get to play games/mods like TTT, Prop Hunt etc...

your mobo is a nice overclocker, you maybe able to run 2133mhz with fx8350
