I currently have 2x4GB Gskill Ripjaw 1333. I bought 16 more GB or Ram 2x8gb Gskill Ares and they seem to work together ok even though they are different capacities. They have the same frequency and timings so I thought it would be ok and they seem to get along. However one stick was bad so I'm exchanging it on NewEgg and I found out I could have got 16GB Gskill Ares 2400 CAS 11 instead of 1333 CAS 9. I am a sound engineer and use memory intensive programs where latency and memory speed is crucial. Should I again get the 2x8GB 1333 so I will have 24GB or ram or upgrade to the higher frequency of 2400 and go with just the 2 sticks for 16GB. Any thoughts?

Solution
DDR3-2133 is difficult for that CPU, most likely DDR3-1866 with low timings like CL8 and CPU-NB Frequency overclocked to 2400MHz would be your best performance settings.

I have a AMD Phenom II 965 4x 3.4mhz black edition overclocked to 4.0. I do need multiple instances. I play live music through a digital audio workstation and have 8 instruments with 6 or 7 plugins (audio enhancing programs) operating at the same time. My application (Ableton Live) shows my CPU usage and it is moderate so I don't think I need more CPU. How do I figure out if my CPU will support 2400mhz ram?
