I am looking for a 25-50 GIG blue-ray external drive, usb3. I want to take years of home pictures and transfer to a blue-ray DVD. Can anyone direct me to a few blue-ray external devices that support different blue ray DVD media types The more I read the more I am getting confused? Am I wrong that the burner will be able to read different DVD, CD media types? Had read the blue laser is best for long term storage on DVD. Not sure if true or not.

Solution
DVD burned at home don't last forever either. I've had them be not readable after 5 years or so.

Nothing is "write once and never ever touch it again". Unless you maybe delve into M-DVD (archival quality).

A single drive dying should never be a cause for losing data. Be it DVD, SSD, external HDD, whatever.
3-2-1.
3 copies, on 2 different media, at least one offsite.
I did think of an external hard drive (EHD). I have had one external hard drive fail after two years and lost a great deal of info. Plus if I have EHC I have to be careful where to store it. With Dvd, the storage is not really a problem and then I can have the DVD in a number of places(kid's houses, summer place). Thank you for thinking about that idea. Plus from what I have read I believe blue laser DVD storage is a very long time.
