2500+ burned??

I have an Athlon 2500+, I already made it to 2200mhz, on 1.75 volts and 200*11 stable, now, the thing is that I read somewhere on this forum that the chip should easily be able to sustain 1.8v, so I pumped it up to 210x11 at 1.8v, when I rebooted it didn't boot anymore, no beeps, just utter silence (apart from the fans, ofcourse). So I rebooted some more times to see if it would reset the settings (it normally resets itself whenever I overclock it too far). Only, this time it didn't, next step, reset bios, did that (took out battery and all), yet it still didn't work. I really hope you guys now what the problem is, and possible even more important, whether or not I can fix it.

PS. I still have all the warranties as a backup :)

this is my rig: 300watts PSU, ASUS A7N8X2.0, ATI 9600pro, 256MB ddr333, 80Gb hdd

First of all warrenty voids as soon as you overclock. Second of all, I think it's the power supply that's not holding. With stock cool I wouldn't recommend anything higher than 1.75V so at 1.8v I think the temperature would be a little high. And you are using PC2700 memory rated for 166, you got to 200 you're VERY VERY lucky you won't be able to go anywhere above 200mhz.

uhmm, can they see wether or not the cpu is overclocked when I take it out of my pc and take it to the shop where I bought it from? And about the memory, I specifically put it at 83% ratio to cpu for that last overclock. the temps with 200*11 at 1.75v, was about 48C full load.

How did you take your temperature? Lower the Dram ratio more, might get you some extra mhz of FSB, but a decrease in overall performance. If you use Async you dramatically decrease the performance of your system.

Have you taken the processor out and LOOKED to see if it is burned????

And a full load temp of 48c at 1.75v means at 1.8v it would have been about 50c max. Thats no where near high enough to burn the cpu anyway. My guess is either the motherboard went when you upped the voltage (check the area next to the socket for burned out regulators etc) or a power supply problem.....

i was in the exact same situation two days back. My overclocked Barton 2500+ (12.5*180) on A7N8X Dlx 2.0 wudn't boot all of a sudden. no matter how much i reset the BIOS nothing happened. Finally i took my mobo out of the case and took it to my dealer. He checked it and voila! the mobo booted just fine!! So we concluded that my Power Supply (a generic 500W) had conked.

i came home and just to make sure the power supply was really gone, i just put assembled the mobo and CPU with RAM and AGP card and powered ON with the same Power supply....voila!!! system booted as neatly as ever. and since then there's been no problem again. like i said, this was 2 days back.

Just getting your ram above its designed specs was an act of god so feel lucky you had the clock speed abouve 166mhz. Anywho the Barton 2500 can handle voltage of 1.8v with air cooling but only in the winter with room temps below 70 degrees. Other than that DO NOT push it above 1.75 for extended times. Anywho your CPU may still be good but you may wanna look at your ram or that weak PSU you have. You really need at least 400watts.

F-DISK-Format-Reinstal DO DA!! DO DA!!

If you bought a good cooling SLK900A or Swiftech MCX series, then sure they could handle 1.9 under 60C.

ey, Mask, when you couldn't boot your system anymore, did the fans spin when you switched it on? If yes, then I also think that it is my PSU, for I had boot problems more often. Nothing serious: The PSU just couldn't supply enough power to the rig, this meant that when I booted the system stopped after about half a second. Only the leds were still burning, the only way to fix this was to turn off the PSU and wait untill the leds went out and boot again. This problem sometimes repeated itself several times...

yeah pretty much similar to what u have mentioned. the system wud boot into BIOS when i wud disconnect the power supply to the HDDs, CD-ROMs and the Case Fans. but if i connected them again, the system wudnt even post. But as i said, after i got it checked, i have had no problems... my system is running fine now with i HDD, i CD-RW, Barton 2500+ OCed to 3200+, 3 80mm Case fans, one TV-Tuner card, one modem card...

so, mask, basically you are saying that you could boot without all those "extra" power consuming stuff in your pc and that you could get into bios that way. My question now is: Did you set the bios back to normal and then tried to boot with everything plugged in again, or did you leave it that way and let it be checked by the pro's.

it was so at first, but later with only the CPU, RAM and AGP, my system wudnt post, even with nothing else connected.

But then all of a sudden it began to work fine... and itss been working gr8 after that...

Hey i got a A7N8X Dlx 2.0 mobo. i am expecting to get a good set of Kingston Hyper-X RAM in a week's time. lets see how high my Barton 2500+ clocks when i get that RAM...

yep, i do... i am looking for a 9800Pro now. i know (i wish i knew him personally to get a good bargain though  ) a guy who is importing the 9800Pro and 9600 Pro cards from USA and selling here in a auction site.

u know he is giving out the 9800 Pro 128Mb for the price of a locally available ASUS GF4 Ti4400. thats cool. only downside is the card has only the Manufacturer's warranty (no local support)

<A HREF="http://www.teenirc.net/chat/tomshardware.html" target="_new"><b><font color=red>http://www.teenirc.net/chat/tomshardware.html</b></font color=red></A>

i have the mother of all GeForce 4s... the MX440 64MB 4X  ... i am waiting to get a 9800 PRO...wish me luck

Mask wait 'til XT comes out so the pro drops in price.

hey, u know the ASUS 9800Pro XT 256MB is indeed available against order here. It'll take anywhere between 4-6 weeks to get the card once i have placed the order. And it costs Rs.45000!!! thats US$1000!!! the 9800 Pro 128MB i plan to get (the one without local warranty/support) costs Rs.20000 which is US$440!

There is a 9800Pro 256 MB DDRII card in auction in a local site. If i get it for about Rs.20000, i'll get that. i have my fingers crossed

<A HREF="http://www.teenirc.net/chat/tomshardware.html" target="_new"><b><font color=red>http://www.teenirc.net/chat/tomshardware.html</b></font color=red></A>

are you saying the 9800pro 128meg and 256meg are the same price?

-Intel PIV 2.4C @ 3.84G -Asus P4P800 -OCZ Copper 2x256 4000EL memory @ 275mhz 3-4-4-8 -Sapphire 9800pro @ 490/780 -SB audigy -80G Maxtor Diamond Plus9 Ultra ATA-133 hdd -450 Enermax PSU

let me explain. The 128MB 9800 Pro is selling at a fixed price auction at Rs.20000/- The 256MB DDRII 9800 Pro is a regular auction which started with a price of Rs.1/-. so if i get this 256MB card for about Rs.20000/- i'll buy it. if not i am thinking of getting the 128 mB card. wish me luck
