Hello everyone

I just finished off putting a new build together, my first one. I've noticed that there are some pretty big differences in core temps in my 2500k. Here are the temps; 45 29 36 41

Specs are as follows

2500k
Asus extreme maximus gene-z
Corsair h60 Cooler
Evga GTX 560
Corsair 600t case
Corsair GS800w PSU

I'm not using the stock thermal paste due to the fact I had to rma the board. When I received the new board i put new thermal paste on, is it possible I didn't use enough?

So I removed the old paste reapplied more shinetzu, ran an intel burn test and noticed under the test that there really isn't much more than a 4c difference between the cores under the test and the max they're getting to is 70c. There is still about a 10c difference under idle.

I'm running hwmonitor. The funny thing is that while playing crysis or any other games the temps stay around 60c. Maybe in the next couple weeks i'll try some different thermal paste, any suggestions? Also I forgot to mention I do have it clocked at 4.0ghz.

I have the 2500k overclocked to 4.3 Ghz and my idles at 33 give or take a degree or 2 and under load mid to upper 50's with a Asus p8p67 extreme and a Cooler Master V8 cooler, when applying the paste I always smear an even amount on the chip then put a pea size dot in the middle and then set your cooler seems to work great, Oh ya used the paste that came with the cooler nothing special. The fluctuation in the separate cores is custom to each chip none would be identical.

It's normal to get hotter in intel burn test or prime95 as it's a synthetic stress test, stressing it much more than any normal program. I don't think another thermal paste will help and you temps are fine. Are you doing the dot method or the line method?
