I've been planning to build a new computer with the 6700k and finally replace my 2500k because it seems to be slacking these days. I'm convinced something's wrong with my current computer, yet I can't figure out what it could be. I'm holding off on the upgrade with concerns that these situations will exists regardless of my computer's specs. Everything is at 1080p on a 144hz monitor. I generally play games with staying above 144 fps being my goal.
I play alot of MMO games and get less than ideal performance for the situation. So when I went to investigate I found that my CPU and GPU are both around 50% load with good temperatures, yet I'm only hitting around 40 fps. (Example: http://i.imgur.com/i5JFcPx.jpg)
All cores are around 40%, as well as my GPU, both with good temps BUT my game is running very poorly. This is the case for other, more modern MMOs.
I really have no idea how to diagnose or address this. Other games and programs are able to max out both my computer and don't have this problem (graphical games like GTA 5, Crysis 2, Metal Gear Solid V). MMOs in particular seem to have this problem, it also happens to me in league of legends.
I'll randomly drop 30 FPS in high action fights, yet my GPU and CPU are all around 50% usage, going from 144 fps to 80 fps usually doesn't matter but on a 144hz monitor it feels horrible, especially since my computer is basically in idling while it happens (Exmaple: http://imgur.com/JnmCbFK.jpg). You can see at the top the FPS has a bunch of dips, but nothing is really happening out of the ordinary on my CPU usage or GPU usage. That one large drop to 0 FPS was an alt tab. Also my CPU's first core seems to spike on a timed interval.
Edit: The results are the same with my CPU at 4.6ghz aswell as stock clocks.
