Any one know anything about an FX5600 with 256mb?? I was thinking about getting one off of ebay but cant find any coverage on that card.

Thanks

Well, I can't think of why you would want this card, really. The Albetron Turbo models in 128Meg memory guise are excellent Nvidia products. The beef I have with ANY 256meg memory card is this;

1.0 No 4 pixel pipeline and 128 bit memory channel card will play directX 9 games well to keep once they become popular. They just don't have the fill rate.
2.0 Why worry about texture detail with low frame rates and pay as much, or near to, a better 128 meg memory card with a 8/256 pipeline/memory solution?
3.0 Nearly ZERO games will even use 128 let alone 256meg texture detail.
4.0 As soon as they do, a 5600 series card will be seriously oudated. And who want a video card that looks like a slide show at any detail level?
5.0 Most 256meg cards are SLOWER at lower resolution because of memory latency. Only when you get to 1200x1600 or higher do you see a 1-5% improvement at best. DO you play games at 1200 x 1600? Do you want FPS or looks only? I want BOTH and FPS is FIRST.

Marketing is designed to suck the money out of your pockets. Don't let them. Read the reviews and become an informed consumer. Buy an Albetron 5600 Turbo (great overclocking ability) 128 meg and be REAL happy if you use Nvidia, or any good 9600 series (Sapphire seems to rate well) 128meg ATI product.

Pass on the 256meg solutions. It's just silly with the current games, and the ability of a 4/128 cards ability to play them. A ATI9800pro with 256meg or FX5900ultra 256meg just MIGHT be good enough to keep through the coming directX9 games. But man, what a price!

Thanks for the info.. Unfortunatly it was cheep and the auction was ending so now I have it. Hopefully it will be better than my current GeForce 2 mx with 32 meg.

Thanks

Why put out a post saying you're going to consider the card when you already bought it? People don't mind helping you, but this is inconsiderate of their time.

Tell the truth, and nothing but the truth.

Sigh, if you still do this way, you'll be black-listed by everone.

CPU Pentium VI 2.66GHz
Mainboard MSI 865PE Neo2 - LS
Video Card Leadtek A280 Le TD DDR 256MB
Hard Disk Maxtor DiamandMax9 80GB Buffer 8MB & W.D. 40GB Buffer 8MB

2 reasons. 1.) No matter what, if I own the card or not I am still very interested in knowledgeable opinions on the card and by extension, my purchase. Exactly what your post was very helpful in illuminating. Secondly, since after shipping and handling, tax and insurance, the card was the same price as the 9500pro I wanted in the first place, it helps me decide if I want to take advantage of their 30day return policy.

Thanks for your time.

Please see my response to rower30. Also what is a Pentium 6? Go back to school and learn your numerals.

the 9500pro would be faster than teh 5600, even if it had 1gig of video ram

my response was exactly what rower put. he summed it up perfectly

The FX5600 SUX! You'd have been better of with the R9500Pro (much better) and even an OLD GF4ti. Check THIS article/review for some insight. And no I don't agree with the conclusion of the review, it gets schooled by the GF4s in most cases, and it would NOT be comparable to an R9500P/9600Pro. The overclocking is nice (not 9600P nice) but isn't enough to save it IMO.

So take advantage of that 30-day policy and in the future save your/our time + shipping costs.

5600 Sucks.
5600 Ultra Is So-So.
5600 Ultra rev2 is Pretty good.

Figure out what PCB it's based on, if its the straight 5600 ditch it... i'd prolly keep it if it were an rev1 or 2.

That's my opinion, anyway.

These days, no matter what company you like, be it nVidia, ATi, or whatever, no matter how logical your reasons, you're labeled an idiot or a fanboy, or both.

Well, on the bright side, it's way, way better than your Geforce2 MX.

How much did you score it for? If it was very cheap, you might have made out well.
